Random Items...

There are so many fun and random things that people sell in the roads of Freetown. Most of these items are carried on their heads. I made a list of things I saw people selling:

multi-colored clothes hangers
gum and lozengers
floor mats
mugs
sunglasses
blue jeans, sport coats
bags of water
extension cords
dvds from China (twelve movies on one dvd)
tools
umbrellas
lamps
bumper stickers
manicure kits
hot dogs
Wal-Mart meets the street! It's great!

Hi Chelsea:

The people walking the streets selling wares are a vivid memory of mine as well. They are selling for someone else so they only get a fraction of each sale. As I bought goods from people my heart went out to the many that may walk all day or much of the night and sell little if anything. The sights and sounds of the people moving about in the centre city of Freetown remind me of the marketplace scenes, stories, encounters written by the Apostle Paul. The Bible really comes alive when one lives in Sierra Leone. Not only the urban scenes and stories but the rural-pastoral ones you will see soon. The most important thing to remember is that we are not alone as God draws near to the marketplace whenever and wherever his people gather and live. You are strategically placed to do much Kingdom good. The many "Friends of Chelsea" are so proud/thankful of you.

Peace,

Joe

I love that! You can shop non-stop no matter what you're real intention of being out and about is :)

If Memphis had people walking around selling hotdogs on their heads I would keep them in business!! I am so glad you are getting to see and do so much! We sure do miss you here but know you are exactly where God wants you to be. Take care and BE SAFE!!

Chelsea,

I know th sites well... brings back memories. I tried banana flavored gum for the first time there thanks to a purchase "on the fly" by Carol Doster as we traveled to Taiama. God Bless You!
